Dr. Cindy Chan

Dr. Cindy Chan founded her own private practice in 2008 after practicing at the Castle Peak Hospital, Hong Kong, for seven years. With over 20 years of clinical experience as a clinical psychologist, she developed deep expertise in healing and nurturing those with childhood adversities and traumas to achieve psychological well-being.  Dr. Cindy is richly experienced in treating clients with a broad range of psychiatric illnesses and psychological issues, such as adjustment issues, grief, depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorders, personality disorders and complex trauma.  Being trained in a scientist-practitioner model with her rich clinical experience, Dr. Cindy strives to integrate different evidence-based treatment modalities in her psychotherapy, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Emotion-focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Mindfulness- and Compassion-based Therapies.

Apart from her core competence in psychotherapy, Dr. Cindy also provides forensic psychological assessment for clients with legal issues.  She was the clinical psychologist of the Forensic Psychiatric Team at the Castle Peak Hospital during 2001 to 2008.  She was also one of the clinical psychologists at the Adult Psychiatric Team at the Castle Peak Hospital in the same period.  With a strong commitment in serving the community, Dr. Cindy was a member of the Guardianship Board and Post-release Supervision Board of the HKSAR. Dr. Cindy aspires to help the general public understand more about psychology through her original articles, books, podcasts and videos.  She hopes that every human being can live with internal contentment and freedom, and strives to help people with adversities and traumas live a fulfilling life by healing and nurturing them for the development of groundedness and resilience.

Lap graduated from Hong Kong Shue Yan University with a Bachelor of Social Science in Counselling and Psychology degree. She completed the Advanced Certification in Life Coaching in HKU SPACE and got a Certificate in Professional Coaching (programme dually accredited by ICF & EMCC).

Lap is also an ICF Associate Certified Coach apart from being Dr. Cindy Chan’s assistant. She dedicated to promoting mental health and improve well-being with a holistic approach in her coaching practice. By incorporating knowledge in professional coaching and psychology, her philosophy is to enhance people’s self-awareness and help them to attain full potential in their lives. She strives to help her clients to discover their significant strengths. She believes that everyone has their inner strengths and power to overcome obstacles, to transform and to achieve their unique goals in life.
